The POM-3 features an electronic seismic proximity sensor and a self-destruct mechanism with programmable time delays ranging from several hours to days. The POM-3R retains these functions but is specifically intended for deployment by small special forces units. These units utilize the mine for immediate area denial in specialized tactical operations, establishing defensive perimeters in enemy territory, and booby-trapping during retreat or exfiltration.
