On September 19, 2026, images emerged online showing the aftermath of an accidental explosion that killed two Balochistan Liberation Army militants near Quetta, in Pakistan’s Balochistan Province. Materials recovered from the site included seven beige-colored AlphaFire pyrotechnic initiation systems labeled “STOS,” a reference to the BLA’s Special Tactical Operations Squad. Such receivers have been documented in multiple BLA recoveries in 2026, and are distinct from AlphaFire 6 receivers previously observed in Pakistan, resembling the profile of the AlphaFire 8 or X models.
Both the AlphaFire 8 and X use a single 9 V battery and incorporate additional electrical-protection features. Compared with the earlier AlphaFire 6, the newer system provides greater available firing current and incorporates overload and short-circuit protection.
Crucially, the newer system allows transmitter synchronization while remaining in SYNC-TEST mode, rather than requiring the receiver to be placed in armed mode. The distinctive appearance of the receivers, particularly their beige housings and STOS markings, raises the possibility the units were either customized at the point of supply or modified after acquisition.
