On August 4, 2026, three weaponized drones were reportedly used in an attempted attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport in Saxony, eastern Germany. Two reportedly exploded shortly after launch, while the third reached the cargo apron, struck a Ukrainian Antonov Airlines An-124 and failed to detonate. The UAV that reached the aircraft used commercial cellular infrastructure for command and live video, with a reported architecture incorporating a camera, Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W, 4G equipment and a mobile hotspot rather than a conventional direct RC link. This configuration enabled operator control and live video through commercial mobile-network infrastructure.
