While Ukrainian clandestine sabotage and assassination IED operations often incorporate standard or standardized military-grade initiation systems (primarily RC systems), some foiled plots and equipment recovered from detained agents have featured improvised systems assembled from commercially available components.
Timer modules remain uncommon but have been documented. Most observed civilian configurations rely on RF wireless modules, with EBYTE LoRa modules of various types frequently identified in evidence released by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.
Several incidents also featured notable concealment of IEDs or IED components, intended to enable inconspicuous transport and reduce suspicion. Documented concealment methods include modified power banks and a portable audio speaker.
