On December 26, 2025, at approximately 10:25 AM, a powerful explosion occurred at the Ummul Qura International Madrasa in Hasnabad, South Keraniganj, on the outskirts of Dhaka, Bangladesh. As a result of the explosion, the madrasa director, his wife, and their two children were injured, and extensive damage was caused to the building and the surrounding area. During the investigation and clearance of the site, large quantities of various chemical materials were identified, along with improvised TATP explosive. The assessment is that the explosion resulted from the preparation of a large quantity of explosive material inside the madrasa, constituting a work accident. The madrasa director, who is known to authorities and identified as affiliated with Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh, fled after being evacuated to hospital. The investigation is ongoing. Based on the extent of the damage and the quantity of explosives seized, it is assessed that approximately 40–50 kg of TATP had been prepared at the site.
