In late January 2026, Iran announced the deployment of an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy drone carrier to the Persian Gulf, south of Bandar Abbas.
The vessel features a takeoff and landing runway and carries JAS-313, Mohajer-6, and Ababil-3N UAS. It also operates vertical takeoff and landing platforms, including Homa drones, Mil Mi-17 helicopters, and Bell 212 / Bell 206 helicopters.
In addition, the ship reportedly stores approximately 30 fast attack craft in internal hangars, identified in varying reports as Shura- and/or Tareq-class, equipped with side-mounted cranes for launch and recovery.
The public unveiling of this unique platform amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, and in parallel with negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program and ballistic missiles, appears intended as both a signal of deterrence and a warning to Washington. At the same time, the vessel itself could become a potential target should negotiations collapse.
