On October 3, 2025, a video was posted on a Mexican Telegram channel showing the first documentation of a fiber-optic-guided FPV drone, reportedly filmed in a remote area of Sinaloa.
Previously, on September 25, 2025, the Mexican Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection and the National Intelligence Center reported they had intercepted social and private media communications from cartel members celebrating the imminent arrival of a “special” order: fiber-optic drones.
In another interception, Mexican Security Minister Omar García Harfuch stated an (unidentified) Instagram profile had confirmed receipt of the shipment.
The introduction of fiber-optic-guided FPV drones is a serious game changer in the Mexican arena, placing security forces at imminent risk and undermining the Mexican government’s investment in expensive counter-UAS RF jamming equipment, which is ineffectual against fiber-optic cable modules.
