During the past month, a rocket-production cell in the Ramallah area was exposed following a test launch from the village of Ni’ama toward Israel. The exposure prompted raids in Surda and Beitunia, where rockets at various stages of production and additional weapons were seized.
This incident follows multiple rocket launch attempts from Jenin in 2023, and several seizures of improvised-rockets components across the West Bank over the past two years. Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad continue to pursue “game-changing” capabilities to bolster threats from the West Bank and advance objectives in Gaza, with Iran widely assessed to provide backing.
To date, the Israel Defense Forces’ freedom of action in the West Bank – with partial cooperation from the Palestinian Authority – has constrained the development of a substantial local rocket capability. However, attempts are likely to grow, posing an ongoing challenge and requiring sustained IDF vigilance.
