On August 31, 2025, Pakistani security forces foiled a major terrorist plot near Tiarza Gate Garrison, along the Wana-Upper Waziristan road in South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. A vehicle carrying gas cylinders and seven barrels of improvised explosives, weighing approximately 240 kilograms in total, was intercepted, while concealed beneath a load of firewood.
The Hafiz Gul Bahadur group has emerged as one of Pakistan’s most prominent militant organizations, operating infrastructure and training camps dedicated to SVBIED attacks. Many of its SVBIED attacks are concentrated in the Mir Ali area, near Bannu. HGB SVBIEDs are typically constructed by loading rickshaws, station wagons, or trucks with explosives-filled barrels, interconnected by detonating cord. These explosives are initiated by a suicide driver (Istishadi), using a single or double initiation switch positioned on or near the vehicle’s dashboard.
