TGA0839 – Zhdun: Stationary FPV Loitering Munition Ambush Tactic

June 1, 20251 min readTerrogence Intelligence Team

A new TTP emerging from the Ukraine conflict involves the covert deployment of improvised loitering FPV drones in a dormant state along anticipated enemy movement routes. Both Russian and Ukrainian forces have utilized drones that are covertly landed and remain stationary until a target is detected. Upon detection, the FPV pilot commands the drone to take off and engages the target with speed and surprise. These munitions frequently feature improvised landing gear and may incorporate battery power supply saving methods and advanced communication solutions, such as fiber-optic cables or radio links with repeaters. The tactic enables rapid and unexpected engagements, leaving minimal reaction time for defenders and facilitating real-time target acquisition and prioritization.
