May 1, 20251 min readTerrogence Intelligence Team

On May 3, 2025, an explosion occurred at a street junction in the city of Thessaloniki, Greece. As a result of the explosion, a woman was killed, in what was apparently a work accident. According to the documentation, she was holding the IED when it initiated.

The investigation into the incident revealed connections between the deceased and an inmate of  Domokos Prison who had allegedly arranged for a letter IED to be sent to the Court of Appeals in Thessaloniki, which was neutralized on February 12, 2024. A week after the letter IED incident, a previously unknown group called “Armed Response” claimed responsibility for the attempted attack.

Greece has faced a persistent threat from anarchist and extremist organizations engaged in IED attacks across the country. Forensic analysis of the technical assembly of the IEDs, and the shared attack TTPs suggest operational linkage among these groups.
