On April 3, 2023, two images were posted on a Russian Telegram channel, showing the inside of a downed Ukrainian UAV. The aircraft appears to be a booby-trapped reconnaissance UAV. A comment on the image warned Ukrainian forces are increasingly booby-trapping UAVs.
Discussions on the subject of Ukrainian UAVs fitted with self-destruct mechanisms and booby traps have appeared on different Russian Telegram channels since March 2023.
The use of booby-trapped UAVs in various arenas in the world where they are widely employed is rare and there is very little documentation of this phenomenon.
