In April 4, 2022, Colombian Police arrested three ELN operatives allegedly responsible for extorting oil company subcontractors in Barrancabermeja, in Santander department, in northern Colombia. The three ELN militants were traveling in a taxi that was intercepted by the police officers, who found an assortment of IED initiation systems, including Casio wristwatch-based timers, improvised electric detonators, and a large improvised linear shaped charge. The arrests came at the conclusion of a five-month operation during which time the cell was monitored.
