On February 8, 2022, Colombian security forces neutralized a dump truck VBIED in Tibú, in Norte de Santander, in northern Colombia, bordering Venezuela. The truck concealed a mortar firing platform with numerous improvised mortars of different diameters, as well as different types of high-trajectory ammunition.
The VBIED was fitted with an electronic initiation system and was neutralized and disassembled before being destroyed in a controlled detonation. The dump truck VBIED mortar firing platform was similar to other VBIEDs utilized for the same clandestine purpose by the ELN in the passing month.
